Two Chimneys

near Nainital, Uttarakhand

Staying in:
Two Chimneys has an extensive and eclectic library. The main foyer has board games like snakes & ladders, chess, ludo and a carrom board.

If you feel like getting up from one of the comfy chairs scattered about, the games room has a pool table and table tennis table.

And if you’re in the mood to work off one of their splendid meals, you could always take in a dip in the swimming pool on the upper level.

We also recommend enjoying the beverage of your choice in one of the many gardens, or better yet, on the machaan. This platform, raised high above the swimming pool, is the perfect place to enjoy a sundowner with the lights of nearby Nainital and the Milky Way as a backdrop.

Out and about:
There is a mountain path from the property that takes you to Nainital in just 3 km, if you’re up to the trek.

For a day trip, the distractions of Nainital are a 30-minute drive away (it’s 16km by road!), and the taals (lakes) that give their names to most of the large towns in the area are also within driving distance. Make a day of it by visiting Nainital and then on to the lakes of Bhimtal, Naukuchiatal and Sattal.

Shopping tip: Remember to stop at a Himjoli or Fruitage store for truly scrumptious jams and chutneys made from the local fruits, as well as local handicrafts.

Lastly, the Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve is 65km from Two Chimneys and is absolutely worth a visit. Chock full of all manner of animals, large and small, the park is best seen on one of the licensed jeep safaris available, or for the more adventurous, an elephant safari. Access to the park requires a permit which is obtained at Ramnagar.
