The Secret Garden
Saligao, north Goa
Only breakfast is provided at The Secret Garden, but this is a real treat and Helen’s omelettes are a MUST!
We loved starting the day here in the big dining room – the main communal area where you will interact with other guests – sitting at the long table with a newspaper and the doors wide open to the garden, before stepping outside, barefoot, for a dip in the tranquil pool. Of course, it’s also warm enough year-round to keep it al fresco and eat at the patio table as well.

Dining nearby
Helene knows the area well; she is full of suggestions and knows all the sweet spots. She’ll even run out and pick up an item or two for you if she’s heading out herself.
Though there are a handful of local restaurants within walking distance, renting a scooter to get around is the best option as it enables you to experience some of the really incredible restaurants that have set up shop in north Goa.
In Saligao, and near to The Secret Garden, check out Cantare bar for snacks and drinks. Also nearby are I95, Foxes Feista, Colours and local institution Florentine. Definitely check out the superb MOG (Museum of Goa) a privately owned gallery and art space which also hosts the excellent Om Made Café.
Check out Gunpowder in Assagao, 15 minutes away, open all year round and serving superb south Indian fare. Head to nearby Baga and try Go With The Flow, which has sushi, seafood and excellent meat dishes. Bomras, in Candolim, is a must-visit due to its gorgeous, eclectic menu, and don’t underestimate the excellent Italian food available at Ciao Bella in Assagao.
