The Artists’ House
north Goa
The house is self-catering and the kitchen here, though not large, is fully equipped with a microwave, juicer, kettle, gas cooker and a full complement of cutlery and crockery.
There is a corner shop less than 1 minute from the house, OK for basic provisions. For everything else (fruit & veg, dry goods), Madhlamaj – the local village centre and shopping hub of Mandrem – is the place to go, it will take you 5 minutes by road or 20 minutes on foot.
Through its mutual management with Yab Yum down at Ashwem Beach, guests at the house can order from the same menu and have food delivered throughout the day and into the early evening. Staff are also based round the corner at Jivana and can bring breakfast and dispatch wine, beers and anything else needed. This all works well in practice, just be prepared to order ahead over the phone or via Skype.

Menu
The house is self-catering but guests can also order food in from the kitchens at Yab Yum or Jivana.
The menu runs all day and includes a selection of healthy, fresh and tasty salads, western and Indian snacks – from soups to Goan fish curry to chicken souvlaki – and light dishes and a few kids meals.
Vegetarians have plenty of choice.
In the evening, excellent Indian thalis can be ordered alongside all the usual daytime dishes.
Dining nearby
There is nowhere to eat within walking distance but head out by car, taxi or scooter and you can experience the superb culinary delights of north Goa.
Down at the nearest beach (Ashwem) should be your first port of call. Here you can dine at Yab Yum, Pagan Café, and the infamous La Plage, all right next to the beach, with very casual settings and reasonably priced.
Hidden away in Mandrem, check out Café Nu for excellent Asian/fusion food; take a driver that knows where it is!
The excellent Sublime, which at the time of writing is located in Morjim, is a must-visit, as is Frichty, a French-run newcomer on the road between Mandrem and Arambol.
Further afield, there are more superb places to eat in Vagator, Anjuna and surrounds. Check out our full guide here.
