Talabgaon Castle

near Jaipur, Rajasthan

Breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner are all available.

Breakfast is included in the room tariff and isn’t a fussy affair. There is a basic selection of cereals and juices, eggs prepared to your liking and approximately two to three main items (like poha, idli, chole) that change every day.

Lunch is served in the dining room and usually features a wholesome all-Indian buffet, with frequent signature Rajasthani dishes like laal maas.

Dinner follows the same format but is definitely more elaborate and served by the poolside, making options like the hot-off-the-grill tikkas even more tempting.

An all-day snack menu is available, and can be used for a la carte dinner orders if you have fussy eaters in your entourage. It’s also served in-room and at the bar, although the room service doesn’t run like clockwork; cocktails seem to arrive with more punctuality than the snacks do.

In general, guests are more than pleased with the dining options unless they had set out specifically for a gastronomical adventure, and from observation, the kitchen is hardly likely to refuse any special request.

It’s worth remembering that the hotel does treat you like guests dropping in to their home, and gracious dinner guests almost always guarantee welcoming hosts!

Menu

The buffet-style lunch and dinner don’t give diners too much choice, but the Talabgaon kitchen does aim to please with its range of authentic Indian dishes, some quite rustic, homemade and most definitely tasty.

The all-day snacking menu has its share of hits and misses; the tikkas are crowd-pleasers done consistently right and you can hardly go wrong with simple requests like pakodas or sandwiches. Get them at the bar to go alongside evening drinks.

Dining nearby

Talabgaon village isn’t a culinary destination. Other than an authentic village meal experience arranged upon request, the hotel and its kitchen are the only options available in the immediate area.

A trip out to Alwar and its fair number of independent hotels might open up more dining adventures.

If you are venturing out to Jaipur for the day, it might be wise to make the most of the dining options available there.
