Suryagarh
near Jaisalmer
Suryagarh is located 15km due west of Jaisalmer, an easy 15-20 min drive.
Despite proximity to the town this still feels like a remote location in the midst of the Thar Desert, totally cut off from the outside world. This, of course, is part of the hotel’s charm, and the deep desert sky lit by bright stars at night really draws out the sense of peace and tranquility here.
How to get there:
Make your way to Jaisalmer then have the hotel collect you.
By air:
There are currently no flights to Jaisalmer, but it is well serviced by buses and trains. Time can be saved by flying to Jodhpur which is 300km away, and then heading on to Jaisalmer by road or rail.
By train:
There are overnight trains to Jaisalmer from Delhi, Jaipur and Jodhpur. From Delhi the train takes around 20 hours so travelling overnight makes it more tolerable, though don’t expect the train to arrive on time. Ask the hotel to collect you from the station.
By road:
Buses head to Jaisalmer from both Jodhpur (300km) and Jaipur (570km) as well as from the wider region and even further afield, Mumbai and Delhi included. As with the train, you’re looking at a journey of around 20 hours, depending on stops of course.

When to go:
The best period to visit Jaisalmer is from mid-October through to March, with the end of January being the most pleasant time, temperatures then rarely exceed the mid 20s C and the nights can get very cool.
Daytime temperatures from March to the end of November will often exceed 30C, and head towards 40C between May and July before the monsoons arrive.
During July and August, humidity, rainfall and thunderstorms are the norm.
Getting around:
You can get around Jaisalmer on foot as it is not a big city, but to get into town ask the hotel to arrange a driver for you and consider keeping him while you’re there.
