Sur La Mer
north Goa
Relax and hang out:
The hotel’s raison d’etre. Have a swim in the pool, laze on the sun-loungers, sip drinks, eat food, read books, watch TV and DVDs (from the extensive library in reception), play table tennis and chat with other guests. There’s no obligation to be social but the very nature of Sur La Mer encourages it, with the bar area being a real focal point at night.
Head to the beach:
Asvem and Mandrem have some of the best sands in Goa, and are a short walk away.
Explore:
To explore north Goa it’s best to rent a scooter or car (ask at reception). Away from the beaches there are paddy fields, temples, quintessential Goan lanes and houses, and an immense banyan tree five minutes drive away that’s worth a visit.
Arambol (about 20 mins drive) is a great little town for shopping and people watching. Further north at the Maharashtra border, Fort Tiracol is a popular day trip destination, with dining now available in the fort itself.
To the south is Anjuna (about 20 mins drive, over the river) which has its popular Wednesday trinket/tourist market and some good cafes. Heading on further south will take you to tourist central: Baga, Calungute et al.
