New Delhi

Located in the quiet, upmarket residential area of Janakpuri – west of Delhi’s centre i.e. Old Delhi.

How to get there:

The best way to get here is by car from the airport, or on the metro from New Delhi railway station.

By air: Indira Gandhi International Airport is about 15km from the centre of the city and has domestic and international flights landing round the clock. From the airport you can catch a metro or get a taxi (or have one sent by the hotel).

By rail: New Delhi or Old Delhi railway station and then on to Uttam Nagar East metro station. Catch a rickshaw from the metro.

By bus: ISBT or various points across the city depending on the private company one uses.

Distances & travel times:

airport: 12km / 20 mins

railway stations:
Uttam Nagar East metro station: 10 minutes
New Delhi: 30 minutes

When to go:

It’s the capital city, so any time is good, though of course the most pleasant months for sightseeing are October – March.

Delhi temperatures can rise to 45C in May and fall as low as 5C in Jan, coinciding with freezing smog that makes visibility drop close to 0 some days, so the city can be a harsh place. Both mid-November and early March can be particularly nice, with beautiful blue skies and pleasant sunshine.

In Delhi, Diwali is king and Holi comes a close second. Christmas is also celebrated with increasing intensity, albeit as a commercial holiday instead of a Christian one; it’s a city that loves to flaunt its wealth after all.
