Samode Haveli

Jaipur, Rajasthan

There’s a lot to see in and around Jaipur, and being in the northeast of the city, in the heart of the old town, is the best location from which to get out and explore.

Staying in:

As you’d expect, the big pool here is the star attraction and centerpiece of the hotel, offering a welcome chance to cool off and relax in the heart of the city, it is often touted as the best pool in Jaipur. Adjacent is a large paddling pool (great for kids) and a jacuzzi.

Overlooking the lovely pool is a gym, well equipped with 3 treadmills, free weights, spinning machine, cross-trainer and more. Next door are a couple of spa rooms, which provide ayurvedic and other massages, and also have a steam room.

Forts and Palaces (and an observatory!):

There are a handful of spectacular buildings in and around Jaipur that adults and children will enjoy visiting.

Hawa Mahal and the City Palace are near to each other and both just a few km from the hotel. Both are definite ‘must-dos’, as is the nearby Jantar Mantar, an ancient and fascinating observatory (there is one in Delhi too) that is also great for kids.

The fantastic Amer Fort (aka Amber Fort) is 8km from Samode Haveli, spend a few hours here and then head on to either nearby Jaigarh Fort, or back towards the city and detour to Nahargarh Fort (4km from Samode Haveli). Catch the sunset at Nahargarh if you time it right; it’s also a great picnic spot and there is a café which opens late. It’s probably best not to try and do all 3 forts in one day, you just won’t have the energy.

Shop till you drop:

Jaipur is the place to be for fabrics, jewellery, endless trinkets, souvenirs and quintessential north Indian handicrafts. The bazaars can be tiring but good fun. Tripolia Bazaar is down near the City Palace and from there you can wander further to many others, though you may want to catch an auto to get back with your bags!
