Ratan Vilas
Jodhpur
A stately family-run haveli-turned-hotel in the newer part of the city – away from the overwhelming and maddening chaos of the old town!
Beautifully manicured green lawns and a looming, red sandstone structure welcome visitors to Ratan Vilas. This picturesque haveli, originally built in 1920 by Maharaj Ratan Singh, is an architectural blend of traditional Rajasthani haveli and colonial bungalow.
Converted to a hotel in 1998 by Ratan Singh’s great-grandson Brijraj Singh and his wife Namrata, the former family home welcomed its first guests in 2000 and remains one of Jodhpur’s loveliest family-run hotels.
Located on the main road yet immune to the sounds of traffic – once you enter the confines of Ratan Vilas you feel quite removed from the world outside. The sense of serenity is pervasive; time slows down (though never unpleasantly so) as guests lounge in the numerous seating areas or spend time around the stunning pool. The service is sharp and the staff helpful without being intrusive.
One of the most appealing features of Ratan Vilas is the ample space open to guests – the two courtyards, front lawns, pool, verandah and a beautiful dining room – all inviting you to sit back, kick off your shoes and unwind after a long day exploring Jodhpur.
