Raas

Jodhpur, Rajasthan

There aren’t a huge amount of obvious tourist attractions in Jodhpur, but staying at Raas you will have enough to do inside the hotel that you can easily stretch a stay to 5 days or maybe more.

Shop:
Nearby Sadar market is noisy, dirty and hectic but great to wander round, and traders here are quite used to tourists. As one would expect, the hotel shop is on the pricey side but good for souvenirs, chappals, clothes and so on.

Indulge & relax:
The hotel is an oasis of calm for those looking to rejuvenate. Indulge yourself with a massage in Raas Ila, the Ayurvedic spa ; massages can be performed simultaneously for couples. There’s a great range of treatments available including a fantastic aromatic Thai massage. Be sure to also make use of the excellent steam and sauna facilities.

The outdoor swimming pool is heavenly; large enough for laps, heated during the colder months and surrounded by over a dozen chic sunbeds. Be aware that it can get busy as there are less than 20 sunbeds and 39 rooms in the hotel!

Explore:
Jodhpur is a good place to get around on foot. Walk up to the entrance of the old city by the clock tower or wander through the narrow alleys; take your camera!

Ask to be taken out for a tour of the town in the hotel’s customised blue auto rickshaw.

Head up to the massive Mehrangarh Fort, there are two ways to get there: take the hotel’s auto up the road to the front, or climb up the steep slope to enter the fort through the back entrance. Either way, the experience is amazing and well worth your time.

Special mention goes to Flying Fox, a company run by a bunch of Brits that have taken to zip-lining people across the fort; not necessarily as scary as it may sound.

Visit Bishnoi or Chandelao on a day trip to get a glimpse of the rural life unique to the region. The mud houses and the camels crossing the sand dunes are atypical Rajasthan.
