Raas
Jodhpur, Rajasthan
With a view to die for and a central location, this is the undisputed place-to-be in Jodhpur and a refreshing change from the heritage hotels that dominate Rajasthan.
Excellent both as a base to explore the city and as a place to unwind, Raas is a genuine haven where old-meets-new and 5-star luxury are delivered with boutique style and excellent service.
The hotel complex features a mixture of buildings both ancient and modern, all convincingly brought to cohesion by the use of colour and materials: red sandstone and the classic Jodhpur sky-blue, a colour seen throughout the city and very much part of its tourist-facing identity.
From the 18th century haveli, with its classic Rajput features, to the strikingly modern façade of the main building, Raas is certainly an architectural triumph, but it is the picture-postcard view of its neighbour, the huge Mehrangarh Fort, that really delivers the ‘wow!’ moment.
Accessibility to Jodhpur’s tourist attractions is excellent, plus there’s enough going on inside Raas that you can stay in without becoming restless: indoor, outdoor and in-room dining, a great bar, snazzy shop, lovely pool and an excellent spa.
When night falls is when you really feel the magic of being here. Candles indicate the way as you head up to the rooftop bar and watch the fort light up. It’s hopelessly romantic (just the place to pull out a ring) and surely one of India’s loveliest hotel views.
