Ozran Heights
Vagator, Goa
The pool is very small but nonetheless it’s still a fun place to just laze about and relax in the afternoon when there are not too many people around.
Enjoy the beach: wander down the hill and along Little Vagator aka Ozran beach which is an extension of the larger, busier Vagator beach to the north. At the south end of Ozran beach you can see the amazing Shiva head carved out of the rocks.
Party: Vagator has its share of bars such as Mango Tree, Primrose and the longstanding Nine Bar (which overlooks the beach). Head about 8km further south to the busiest parts of Goa: Baga and Calangute, and be part of the tourist throng if you need more action.
Flea market: head south to Anjuna (just a couple of km) for the Wednesday flea market, a very touristy attraction but worth a visit, especially on a cooler day.
Night markets: there are 2 night markets in Goa – always check with drivers who will know if they are open, as the times can vary. They are nearby at Baga bridge (Mackies – the smaller of the two, about 7km) and at Arpora (‘Ingos’ – the larger one, about 10km). Both markets offer a variety of food, a bar, lots of shopping and live music performances.
Rent a bike: head up to Chapora (just a few km) to visit the Chapora fort. Made famous by the Indian film Dil Chata Hai, the fort has some nice views of the Goan landscape.
Explore: drive around the small bylanes in the area, see quaint Goan houses, stunning churches and emerald-green rice paddies. Venture further north (just 15km or so) to the quieter areas of Mandrem, Morjim and Arambol where you can chill on some of Goa’s quieter beaches and in less developed areas of the state.
