Olaulim Backyards
inland, north Goa
Olaulim’s 3 original, simple, sunny rooms are named after the birds that populate the area, all are different and have thatched roofs, natural and reclaimed materials, nice fabrics plus of course eco-friendly lighting. A newer, fourth cottage, is made from rammed earth and is named Indian Pitta.
Rocks and parts of trees blend into the rooms, the look and feel is ‘rough and ready’ and that’s in-keeping with the price.
Bathrooms are partly open to the elements but totally private, the hot water runs from solar power and some nice bathroom products are provided.
Sunbird – This cottage sits by the edge of the rice paddy and can accommodate a family of 3. There’s a four-poster bed, antique furniture and a great sit-out in front overlooking the paddies and the river.
Hornbill – This cottage is ideal for a family with 2 children. The kids will feel like little adventurers sleeping in the loft which is built into the rocks on the slope. Parents get a king-size bed below.
Golden Oriole – A steep staircase takes you up to this, the smallest cottage, which has large windows overlooking the swimming pool and the lake. Be aware that the bathroom is attached via a staircase so you’ll be inadvertently keeping fit!
Indian Pitta – The latest cottage to be added. This one is great for a family of four, with 1 big twin bed and 2 singles.
