Nubra Eco-Lodge
Nubra Valley, Ladakh
Three styles of rooms are spread over the 11 acre property: 2 unique tented cottages with decks; 4 desert-style safari tents, also with decks; and within the main house, 3 guestrooms with ensuite bathrooms.
The cottages, at the far edge of the property facing the sand dunes and the river, are the most private, and the most sturdy, with concrete shells that are beautified by the covering tent. They have double beds, large wooden sit-out decks and en-suite bathrooms.
The safari tents, on the opposite side, face the vegetable garden, around a beautiful cluster of willow and apricot trees. They are pleasingly large inside and have lovely wooden decks with wicker chairs and tables, and double beds inside.
Rooms in the main house don’t have the same privacy or views as the cottages and tents, nor as much light. They are, however, clean, pretty and much cheaper, and great value if you’re on a budget.
The décor is similar in all rooms: thick, cotton curtains; locally-made furniture (comfortable beds, writing tables, a cool wooden clothes hanger, wicker chairs); and colourful rugs in Ladakhi designs, all of which make the room look very attractive, a great shelter to take after hiking or sightseeing.
At the time of writing, power in the village only comes on between 7pm and 11pm, though the lodge has plans for solar. Do bear in mind that sometimes power fluctuations here can damage devices and equipment.

Room features
- Private decks with wicker chairs and tables (for all tents and cottages)
- Room service (for drinks and snacks)
- Dressing room (in cottages)
Rate the bathroom!
3.5 / 5 (5/5 in context!) – For the Nubra Valley, where bathrooms can be quite shocking, these are beautiful, with walls and floors of Himalayan slate. They are also functional and very clean, and have copious amounts of hot water (thanks to the solar heating).
