Nimmu House
Nimmu Village, near Leh, Ladakh
Nimmu House currently has 4 rooms available in the main house, and 5 tents spread out in the surrounding orchard.
The tents are luxurious and beautiful, made using Jodhpuri canvas and local stone to create what looks more like a stylish cottage with a tented cover. Each tent has an outdoor seating area with lounge chairs, leading into the main tent, partitioned into two sections: a small outer room with two day beds, and a bedroom with king-sized bed.
The tents have been intelligently designed for the modern guest; there are power points everywhere, nooks and niches near the bed for your phone, computer and cup of tea. Each room comes with a room-heater, a table fan, a kettle and selection of teas, and a cool collection of coffee-table books on Buddhism and Ladakh. There are nice little extras too, for example, on our first night, when the temperature unexpectedly dropped, we were given two hot-water bottles each without asking.
The rooms in the house have an equally stylish but more austere aesthetic of white walls and sheets, wooden floors, low, futon-style double beds, small tables, antiques, and wireless internet (if you can catch it).
Hammocks and deckchairs are dotted around and among the garden, enough for the guests of each room, with the apple, apricot and almond trees providing shelter and beauty, alongside the ubiquitious poplars and willows.
