Marbella Guesthouse

north Goa

Marbella Guesthouse is located just south of the Taj Vivanta village, at the bottom end (south end) of Goa’s party belt.

Paniim – Goa’s state capital – is just across the water, and the airport (Dabolim) is not far away. The calmer areas of south Goa and far-north Goa are 30 minutes plus in either direction.

How to get there:

By air:
Goa airport aka Dabolim is very well served all year round by domestic flights (Indigo/GoAir, Jet, Air India, SpiceJet), as well as international charter flights during the holiday season.

By train:
The nearest station to Sinquerim is actually Thivim, but if you can’t alight there then get off at Goa’s main station which is Madgaon (in Margao) and is well-served by trains coming south from Mumbai and north from Kerala. Catch a taxi from either station.

Distances & travel times:

airport: 35km / 50 mins

railway stations:
Thivim station: 25km / 45 mins
Madgaon station: 45km / 1hr 10 mins

When to go:

Any time. The sunnier, busier period is the main holiday season, running roughly from October to April.

Expect Christmas and New Year to be very busy and book as early as you can.

As for the off-season, know what to expect – no swimming, no shacks or resorts on the beach, limited food and drink options, lots of rain – and you can still have a fantastic time.

Getting around:

You can easily walk to the top of lane and take a left down to the Taj and the bottom of Sinquerim Beach. Head north on the road and it will take you all the way through Candolim, Calangute and beyond, it’s tourist central and very full-on, but keep going and it gets much nicer and less busy.

Public transport is not a viable option.

Unofficial taxis are everywhere in Goa but ask the hotel to call for a driver if you don’t wish to search and haggle over the price.

Scooter or motorbike is perhaps the best way to explore Goa. Be aware that those upfront should wear a helmet and drive only tourist licensed bikes. Traffic from Candolim up through Calangute can be very hectic, and Goan roads often have unmarked speed breakers, so take it easy!
