Marari Villas (Palm Beach Villa)
near Alleppey, Kerala
Full marks must go to the owners who have taken time to compile a superb list of things to do at the villa and around the area, everything from dentistry to fishing is included. Do take advantage of this information and you will never be bored.
Of course, the beach here is the main draw: clean, white sands and few people around other than a few locals. Sunbeds can be taken out of the garden on to the beach where you can be served drinks and snacks and, weather permitting, a barbecue can be arranged. You can even take the chef with you to buy your own produce at the local market. Our personal highlight: hammocks in the garden, the best beach accessory there is!
Borrow a board game like Risk or Monopoly, or have a game of badminton to pass the time. There’s also a selection of books and a DVD player in the suite room.
A great way to spend a few hours is to grab a bicycle and cycle around the village or along the serene coastline. If you feel the need to be pampered then head up to one of the lovely resorts nearby. Marari Beach Resort does a great ayurvedic massage and also has a swimming pool which non-residents can use for a fee that includes lunch.
Boat tours are within easy reach, embarking from nearby Alleppey. Take this opportunity if you can, tours can be just half-day and with lunch included.
