Marari Villas (Palm Beach Villa)
near Alleppey, Kerala
A 3 bedroom, serviced villa, right on one of India’s loveliest rural beaches. Brilliantly renovated, ‘boutique’ and comfortable with a great mix of the traditional and contemporary. Ideal for couples, families or a small group looking for total relaxation.
The villa sits on Kattoor Beach, an extension of Marari Beach, which is an exquisite section of Kerala’s coastline, home to a few resorts but largely undeveloped, clean and good for swimming. The location is even more convenient than the beach’s serenity would suggest: Alleppey, the jump-off point for many Keralan backwater cruises, is just 20 minutes to the south, and Kochi is an hour plus to the north with the airport within easy reach.
For a superbly well-rounded holiday, combine a stay here with a houseboat trip around Kerala’s famous backwaters and a night or two in Fort Cochin. There are no beach shacks, noisy bars or restaurants but the sunsets from your hammock are glorious. Pack light, take your friends, some music, books and movies and let the location do the rest.
There are hammocks in the sandy garden (really just the beach with a fence), sun-loungers and deck chairs dotted about and a reception/dining and bar area with unobtrusive, friendly staff. Get up early and you can watch fishermen from the village bring in their daily catch, you may even spot a dolphin or two!

Plus points
- A lovely, big villa on a fantastic beach.
- Great selection of things to do in the area.
- Owners Rupert and Olga have put in a huge amount of work, there’s a real sense that your holiday is their priority.
Good to know…
- Don’t go for the night life, you will be on the edge of a fishing village.
- Go easy in the sea, the beach can slope off quite quickly and the sea can get rough – especially towards the monsoon/off-season – as we found out to our alarm!
