Madri Haveli

Udaipur, Rajasthan

Madri Haveli is located on a narrow lane at the top of the old city, close to the Clock Tower, Gangaur Ghat, City Palace and Lake Pichola.

Driving to the haveli itself is hard work, at some point you’ll have to switch to an auto rickshaw or make the final leg on foot if you’re travelling light and like the workout.

How to get there:

By air:
Udaipur airport is quite far out of town but road links are good. The airport is serviced by Air India and Jet, flying from Delhi or Mumbai. From the airport take a prepaid taxi or ask the hotel to send a driver to collect you.

By train:
Udaipur is well serviced, the main station is Udaipur City Station from which you can take a taxi or auto, there are plenty available.

Distances & travel times:

airport: 30km / 40 mins
railway station: 10km / 20 mins

Getting around:

Walking is best around Madri, the narrow lanes and beautiful sights make it a pleasure.

For the immediate city autos are great, beyond the congested streets there are plenty of taxis available.

When to go:

All year round, but the best months are between October and March with the end of January being the most pleasant time, temperatures then rarely exceed the low 20C and the nighttime gets as low as 2C.

Daytime temperatures from March to the end of November can exceed 30C.

The months of May and June, before the monsoons arrive, can be extremely hot and visiting at this time is not recommended.

During July, August and September, humidity, rainfall and thunderstorms are the norm. If cheap hotel rates are a priority, this is the time to go.
