Jivana

North Goa

Food is available all day until around 8pm.

Breakfast is included and is continental, fresh and simple: organic muesli, fruit salad, freshly squeezed juices, toast, a selection of teas and good, fresh coffee.

Lunch, daytime snacks and dinner are available though some advance notice is necessary for dinner and expect to wait an hour.

Those staying in the Temple House rooms can cook for themselves in the fully equipped kitchen.

Jivana shares the facilities and resources of Yab Yum Resort, 3km away down at Ashwem Beach, and guests are free to eat there at the guests-only restaurant. Food is run by the same team so the menu and quality is at the same high level.

Multiple wines, spirits (local and imported), beers, lassis and juices are available and, like the food, can be taken on your verandah or in the communal areas; but note that guests in the lower section of the property cannot really infringe on the communal space of the rooms up at the Temple House.

Menu

Fresh, tasty and organic, Indian and continental options. Snacks include fish and chicken souvlaki, with gorgeous homemade hummus and tzatziki dips. There are numerous light but tasty salads and lovely fresh dal and rice always available.

Dinner is Indian with a good range of dishes. There’s a special thali (selection of small dishes on a tray), Goan fish curry, Keralan veg dishes, and Indian standards such as aloo gobhi and a lip-smackingly tasty chicken korma.

Dining nearby

There is nowhere to eat in the immediate vicinity, but hop in a taxi and go 10 minutes towards the beach and the options open up.

Yab Yum, Jivana’s sister property (one of the owners is the same), has a great space right next to the beach, serving food till about 9pm and drinks (cocktails as well) for as long as you can last.

A coupe of minutes south on the beach, lies the aptly named Sublime which should not be missed. A few minutes further again is La Plage, no longer Ashwem’s best kept secret but still a gem, serving French-fusion cuisine.

Away from the beach, but still just 10 minutes from Jivana, is Café Nu, take a taxi as it’s hard to find but well worth it for the tasty Asian-fusion food.
