Hotel Diggi Palace
Jaipur, Rajasthan
The rooms in this lovingly rambling hotel differ greatly in size, shape and character and are mostly positioned off the pretty inner courtyards, with more rooms in a separate wing on the other side main lawn.
There are three categories: the smallest (and great value-for-money) are the 29 Heritage Rooms followed by the 31 spacious Palace Suites and the 10 luxurious Courtyard Suites.
We stayed in room 302, a Palace Suite in a newly built section on the second floor of the main wing. The room was large with green marble floors, rugs, long thick curtains, a writing table, another smaller oval table, a large-screen television and wooden cupboards. In an older wing of the hotel, Room 209 – also a Palace Suite – was smaller in size but has a much more warm and cozy feel and came with fresco painted ceilings, Jaipuri block-printed curtains and a cushioned seating area.
If you’re travelling with a friend, Heritage Room 202 is a smart choice; it’s small, with two single beds, but has a lovely window view over one of the yellow and blue painted inner courtyards.
The more expensive Courtyard Suites are large, grand, beautiful rooms kitted out with plush Rajasthani rugs and antique furniture; opening out onto large balconies, offering a real sense of seclusion and respite from the dusty and chaotic city.
