Ghanerao Jungle Lodge
near Kumbhalgarh, Rajasthan
As there is nowhere to eat nearby, guests will be reliant on the lodge’s own kitchen, but that’s no bad thing and much of the produce comes from their own organic farm.
The grand old dining room has a big fireplace for cold winter evenings in, or there’s the front terrace with seating where a bonfire can be lit. For the milder months, the gazebo out front is a great place for a big family meal.
Breakfast is continental meaning eggs, toast, fruits and cereals. For dinner or lunch some Western dishes can be managed but it’s really all about the lovely, homecooked, Rajasthani food: okra, potatoes, gawar, rice and fresh, warm chapattis were a great comfort after our day out in the jungle.
Such a small property is in no need of a bar, instead just let staff know in advance and they can arrange for wine, beer and a selection of alcohol to be available.
Head out for a jeep safari and the staff will pack up a picnic lunch for you to set out near the crocodile dam.

Menu
Emphasis is on authentic, Indian, Rajasthani cuisine with typical Mewari dishes like dal batti and ker sangri.
Veg and non-veg options are on offer and ingredients are as organic and fresh as one would expect in such a rural location, with much of the produce being grown on-site.
Dining nearby
The location is quite remote so there really is nowhere to eat nearby. However, the owners’ other property is The Royal Castle in Ghanerao (5km) which serves lunch during the day plus has an a la carte and buffet dinner.
