Elsewhere & Otter Creek tents

North Goa

Located in north Goa near Mandrem beach, one of the least developed in Goa (between Morjim and Arambol), and removed from the touristy areas, loud bars and beach shacks that dominate many of Goa’s beaches. This place is not easy to find but that’s a blessing not a curse.

How to get there:

By air: Goa airport aka Dabolim is very well served all year round by domestic flights (Indigo/GoAir, Jet, Air India, SpiceJet), as well as international charter flights during the holiday season.

By train: Goa’s main station is Madgaon (in Margao) and is well served by trains coming south from Mumbai and north from Kerala. For Mandrem, try to alight at Pernem or Thivim which are much closer than Madgaon.

By road: coming from the southtake a taxi towards Morjim, then head up the coastal road towards Ashvem. To preserve the exclusivity of Elsewhere, precise directions are only given on confirmation of a booking!

Distances & travel times:

airport: 50km / 1 hr 25 mins

railway stations:
Pernem: 20km / 35 mins
Thivim: 25km / 40 mins
Madgaon station: 70km / 1 hr 55 mins

When to go:

The beach is a key factor here so the time to visit is really during the holiday season which runs roughly from October to April, with November to March being the busiest period. From the start of June to the end of September the accommodation is not available. Book very early for Christmas and New Year.

Getting around:

Public transport is not the best option though a local bus service does exist.

Unofficial taxis are everywhere in Goa, but to make life easier ask for a driver to be called. The right driver can act as a semi-guide, so ask if you need a little more than just driving.

Scooter or motorbike is perhaps the best way to explore Goa. Be aware that those upfront should wear a helmet and drive only tourist-licensed bikes. Traffic around Mandem is not heavy but Goan roads often have unmarked speed breakers, so take it easy!
