Elsewhere & Otter Creek tents
North Goa
Privacy and space by the sea, a virtually unique experience in Goa, delivered with style and grace. This large property is in a rural area and really does lives up to its name, embracing the natural environment with old world sensibilities and a real sense of history about the place.
The property is a large slice of land bordered on one side by a quiet length of beach, and on the other by the creek that snakes round to bisect the beach at high tide and meet the sea. Being almost cut off lends a magical feel to staying here, encouraging you to slow down and forget about the outside world.
Accommodation consists of 4 old, Portuguese cottages plus 3 stylish tents, all reached via a lovely bamboo bridge stretching across the creek (and yes you can hear the waves of the sea as you sleep!).
The owner’s resistance to modernizing or building further accommodation to cram in more guests gives a clear picture of the intentions at work here; though this kind of space and luxury – in Goa at that – comes with a suitably high price tag.
There is a genuine understated elegance about Elsewhere, as well as an eco-friendly bent, but this is not at the expense of guests’ comfort. Instead, simple common-sense decisions have been made to respect the nature that surrounds the property.
Expect to hear plenty of birdsong and see a handful of creatures going about their business. In particular, look out for otters in the creek and, if you’re really lucky, there’s a chance you may see baby turtles hatching on the beach at night, but be respectful!
One lovely quirk: the staff volleyball practice at 4.30 every day. Guests are encouraged to join in and this creates a nice spirit around the place.

Plus points
- A unique, ‘authentic’ stay in north Goa’s quietest (and best) area.
- Eco-friendly credentials.
- Peace, tranquility and privacy. A clear sky at night and the sounds of nature.
Good to know…
- No TV and no pool – it’s just not that kind of place – prepare to unwind and switch off!
- Nature is not the enemy at Elsewhere, so expect to live side by side with whatever comes your way. Note that the creek by the tents has saltwater, thus limiting the mosquito threat!
- Bookings of at least 7 days are preferred.
