Dharohar Homestay

New Delhi

Delicious home-cooked meals prepared by Papiya are available.

The complimentary breakfast is typically eggs cooked to order, served with buttered toast, freshly squeezed orange juice, and seasonal fruit, all served with strong cups of chai or herbal tea. Filter coffee is not available, though you could bring your own and prepare it in the kitchen.

Lunch and dinner are available for an additional charge, in vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The menu may vary slightly, though it mostly sticks to Bengali and north-Indian food: vegetables, lentils, fish cutlets, chicken and mutton curry served with rice, rotis, curd and pickle. Tea and small snacks are served in the day.

Specific dietary preferences or allergies can also be accommodated.

Though alcohol is not provided, you are welcome to bring your own.

Menu

Good-old home-cooked food is what a homestay is all about. Bengali and north-Indian dishes predominate, but just ask if you fancy something a bit different.

Dining nearby

The two big markets of Greater Kailash – N and M – are a 5-minute walk away. N- Block Market is newer and caters to a more sophisticated crowd that likes to shop at Fab India and Anokhi; there is a high turnover of dining establishments in this market—every time we visit something has closed down and something new has opened, and sadly there’s nothing memorable, though Café Turtle does a passable job with day-food: soups, salad, coffee and cakes.

M-Block is the coarser, older market where tailors sit in back-lanes stitching blouses and fixing jeans, and tiny basement shops sell imported clothes from Thailand. Though the market has had a revamp in recent years and now features global brands like Levis and Guess, the food has remained old-school, mostly chaat and takeaway chicken and paneer rolls. Eating here isn’t the priority; it’s all about shopping.

For a good meal, you’ll have to head to GK-II or Defence-Colony Market, all within a 15-minute drive from Dharohar. Defence Colony Market has Sagar, famous for its vegetarian South Indian; and Swagath, an excellent choice for coastal seafood. In GK-II, Diva run by celebrity chef Ritu Dalmia, is famous for its Italian food.
