Kite flying
Let the terrace be the battlefield! March upstairs with Sandeep and Ramlalji, kites in hand, and learn how to bring down the many opponents in the surrounding area. Chai, traditional snacks and encouraging words stream up from downstairs. The session ends with a traditional safa (turban) tying for the men, and a shawl for the women. Especially popular with kids.

Learn to cook like a local
The famous daal-baati-choorma combo and mutton delicacies cooked on fire have a long story behind them. Take a cookery class here with your hosts and learn all about this staple cuisine of erstwhile travellers, pilgrims and armymen who traversed the desert. There’s plenty more to learn and questions are encouraged.

Let your hands and feet be canvas to the creative local women, who smoothly create jaw-droppingly beautiful designs (impermanent, of course).

Reading room
The reading room or library is not the grand and palatial variety, but with well-stacked shelves, a reading table and a TV to watch India-themed DVDs, it’s easy to spend a few hours here, and more so if Mr Singh, your host, is around for good conversation.

Cooking classes with a difference
Mrs Singh hosts India-themed cooking classes that can be easily replicated back at home. There’s a very social atmosphere with enthusiastic guests watching closely and firing out countless questions.

Sightseeing in the city
Jaipur’s essential sightseeing trail includes the Amber Fort, City Palace, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Nahargarh Fort, Jaigarh Fort, Jal Mahal, Royal Albert Hall and a number of other landmarks across the city.

The old markets are rich in local crafts: handmade bangles, silver, blue pottery and textiles.

If you haven’t got a fixed itinerary then take invaluable advice from Mr. Singh. He can arrange a car for you (even an old Ambassador if you like) and can certainly steer you in the right direction for sightseeing, little known spots and good shopping.
