Deogarh Mahal

Deogarh, Rajasthan

The hotel’s grand first-floor dining room hosts breakfast, lunch and dinner. During high season the second-floor’s courtyard bar becomes a hub for both diners and drinkers alike.

With so much space within the property it’s possible to arrange a secluded candlelit dinner, so if the mood takes you just ask as the chatty and affable staff are always keen to help.

Fresh produce is locally sourced for the kitchen, so there’s a natural employment of seasonal, organic ingredients.

Breakfast is not included but is worth paying for. Expect a full spread with both Indian and continental options: toast, juices, cereals, baked beans, eggs to order and Indian parathas for example.

Dinner and lunch are largely north Indian feasts with typical wholesome, rich Mewari dishes like Dal Batti and Ker Sangri. As would be expected there’s some heavy usage of ghee and cream but the special vegetable biryani was a happy compromise. A selection of standard western fare is also available including soups, pastas and sandwiches.

The hotel’s bar stocks staple beers and spirits plus a good selection of Indian wines; not bad at all considering the rural location.

A jeep safari organized by the hotel is a good opportunity to get out and eat elsewhere, your driver can stock up beforehand, stop at a nice spot and lay out a picnic with a view of the sun setting over the rugged landscape and dipping down behind the Aravalli hills.

Menu

The menu is dominated by north Indian food with a focus on Rajasthani cuisine, heavy at times but with some good vegetarian options. There is also a selection of standard western dishes.

Dining nearby

The hotel is really the main place to eat out in Deogarh, though you will of course find snacks and some street vendors in the village.
