There are some good half-day activities organised by the hotel, add to that a couple of days rest and relaxation and you’re good for a 3 to 5 day stay here.

Experience village life:

Take a guided walk round the village and learn about the people, their lifestyles, local craftsmanship and farming.

The hotel sponsors a couple of social initiatives including Sunder Rang, under which the local women produce excellent quality products for sale next door to Chandelao Garh; if you’re shopping for fabrics then save some money for a visit here.

Jeep safari:

Take a ride in the hotel’s jeep. Head out into the desert countryside, see some magnificient landscapes and visit other villages for a glimpse into lives virtually unaffected by the modern world.

Birdwatching:

Birders really are in heaven here and the period from October to March is particularly rewarding. Even around the hotel many species can be spotted, but best of all take a half-day excursion out to Olvi lake where waterfowl, herons, kingfishers, grebes, waders plus three crane species are regularly sighted. Binoculars and a guide are provided.

Sundowners:

This is a real treat. Head out in the jeep and enjoy a view of the sun setting over the rugged desert landscape. Take a bottle of wine and stay past sundown, staff will prepare a barbecue dinner and you can stay out and watch the stars appear in the crystal clear night sky.

Camel rides:

Camels are not for everybody, but if you want to give it a go there’s a camel farm within easy reach where you can even receive some pre-ride instruction. Those who don’t fancy the bump and smell of it all can opt for a camel-driven cart ride through the countryside instead!

Massage:

There is a good selection of true Ayurvedic massages available, ranging from an extremely  reasonable 700 Rs to 2,400 Rs. A 3-day programme is also available. Note that all massages should be booked in advance.
