Butts Clermont Houseboats
Srinagar
Butts Clermont Houseboats can be found on the northwestern shore of Srinagar’s Dal Lake, just north of the Hazrat Bal shrine complex.
Srinagar isn’t a large city, so it’s not too difficult getting around, and everywhere is a short taxi or rickshaw drive away.
How to get there:
You can get the train from Jammu to Srinagar, fly or take a taxi/car from Leh to Srinagar, or of course drive up or fly in from the rest of India. Butts Clermont organizes pick-ups from Srinagar Airport.
By air:
Srinagar Airport is the nearest, with domestic flights arriving from Mumbai and Delhi. Butts Clermont can collect you from here, or you can catch a taxi or auto to the lake.
By rail:
The nearest railway station is to the south of the city and it’s easy to then reach the lake via taxi or auto. Again, Butts Clermont can collect you.
By road:
Head to Srinagar. Dal Lake is to the east of the city and a key feature of the place so not at all hard to find.
Distances & travel times:
airport: 20km / 1 hour
(airport security in Srinagar is very tight; make allowances for this)
railway station: 20km / 45 mins
When to go:
Traditionally, the summer, May to September, is the best time to visit. October to March – the winter months – are very cold, and Butts Clermont closes.
Getting around:
Auto-rickshaws or taxis are the way to go, there are plenty around.
Note that taxis in Srinagar are hired by the half-day or day; the rates are reasonable but for short journeys autos are better.
