Banjara Thanedar
Thanedar, Himachal Pradesh
Perched here above the orchard are 2 buildings, one which serves as the dining area with a games room below, and another that houses the guest rooms. Also, to the side of the property are a pair of log cabins, which are the best option, especially for families.
The main building’s 8 bright and spacious rooms are spread across two floors. All have ensuite bathrooms.
Tip: when booking, ask for a room on the first floor (or log cabin) so as to have a balcony and uninterrupted view of the surrounding hills and stunning sunset. Otherwise, the ground floor rooms still benefit from having the garden and a verandah to sit out and enjoy the view.
Rooms on the ground floor are in 3 categories:
Classic Rooms and the slightly larger Retreat Rooms are all doubles, spacious and sparsely furnished. Family Suites are in the same vein but are altogether bigger with 2 double beds and a common living room area; extra beds can be provided.
To the side of the main building are the 2 log cabins, very Himachali in style, with wooden construction in and out. These rooms have the best, most panoramic views of all, plus their own private verandahs from which to enjoy them. The cabins also have a mezzanine attic that houses 2 kids beds, a nice quirk plus good fun for the little ones or as a retreat if you need to get some work done while the family hang out downstairs.
Overall, you can’t really go wrong whichever room you pick. There are no chrome fittings here, no glass shower doors or fancy toiletries, but the space is ample and clean and all the beds big and comfy. The mountain light pouring through the windows lends a warm and fuzzy feeling to all the accommodation, and the simplicity of things makes sense in a place like Thanedar.
