Banjara Thanedar

Thanedar, Himachal Pradesh

All meals are included, and given that the food here is very good, and there is nowhere else to eat in Thanedar, it’s not something to worry about.

Breakfast includes cereals, tea, parathas, chole and other Indian options. We loved the cheese and toast too, but the best element is of course the local apple jam and chutney!

Lunch mostly revolves around Indian standards like paneer and mixed veg dishes; just like home but tastier.

Dinner is served buffet-style and includes Indian, Chinese (Indian style) and some continental dishes. Before sitting down, be sure to head out to the bonfire – it’s lit pretty much every night – where a hot soup is served and other guests gather round for a friendly chat.

Guests staying for more than a couple of nights may find the menu slightly repetitive but are welcome to make special requests, which will be accommodated whenever possible.

In the evening, tea, coffee and biscuits are served and the bonfire roars on.

Menu

There’s no set menu as such. The focus is on north Indian vegetarian food (but not exclusively vegetarian), with lovely local produce, fresh veg, the ubiquitous dal and rice plus fresh chapatis, papad, a host of pickles and delicious local apple chutney.

Dining nearby

Thanedar is just a village and there is nowhere to eat nearby.
