New Delhi
B-Nineteen is in leafy Nizamuddin East, an upmarket residential area sandwiched between Humayun’s Tomb and Nizamuddin train station, in the heart of New Delhi.
How to get there:
Depending on how and where you’re arriving in the city you could take the metro, get a taxi (or have one sent by the hotel) or just take a cycle rickshaw from Nizamuddin station.
By air: Indira Gandhi International Airport is about 15km from the centre of the city and has domestic and international flights landing round the clock. From the airport you can catch a metro, taxi or bus to the city.
By rail: New Delhi, Old Delhi or Nizamuddin stations.
By bus: ISBT or various points across the city depending on the private company one uses.
Distances & travel times:
airport: 1 hour
railway stations:
Nizamuddin: 5 minutes
New Delhi: 30 minutes
When to go:
It’s the capital city, so any time is good, though of course the most pleasant months for sightseeing are October – March.
Delhi temperatures can rise to 45C in May and fall as low as 5C in Jan, coinciding with freezing smog that makes visibility drop close to 0 some days, so the city can be a harsh place. Both mid-November and early March can be particularly nice, with beautiful blue skies and pleasant sunshine.
In Delhi, Diwali is king and Holi comes a close second. Christmas is also celebrated with increasing intensity, albeit as a commercial holiday instead of a Christian one; it’s a city that loves to flaunt its wealth after all.
Getting around:
The metro is very close by: the nearest station is five minutes away at Nizamuddin. Check out the metro map here.
Otherwise take a taxi or an auto, as usual. Both Meru and Easy cabs are very reliable, efficient and honest taxi firms whose cabs can be ordered online, over the phone and in advance.
