Avanilaya
inland, north Goa
There are 3 villas here: Padimunu is booked only in its entirety, whereas Panchavatti and the Third Place can be booked as whole villas or the rooms can be booked individually.
Panchavatti:
This villa has 5 rooms built around the central garden and each named after a different flower. Running along the rear is a large verandah leading toward the pool.
Lily, where we stayed, has a luxurious colonial style, with a nod to Goa’s past. Old posters from Macau mixed well with black and white prints of Katherine Hepburn, while a luxury luggage trunk sits next to an antique cupboard filled with old ceramic vases.
All Panchavatti’s rooms have moulded beds with stylish teak four-posters and a canopied mosquito net creating a cozy tent-like feel. Large windows with wooden slats let in air and light, and some of these windows (like the ones in Marigold) have gorgeous views over the countryside. Cool cotton saris and Rajasthani fabrics are draped across settees, beds and windows and the rooms are all furnished with planters’ chairs, writing tables, day beds and dressers. Some have private sit-outs.
The Third Place:
The rooms here are very different to those of Panchavatti and Padimunu. Built into the hillside, The Third Place feels more like a cocoon, a great place to escape the nature outside if you feel the need!
4 spacious rooms are spread out across two floors (only one is upstairs), with large teak beds, writing tables, wardrobes and armchairs.
Padimunu:
The 3 bedrooms here are smaller and built around a pretty L-shaped pool with a design style that has a distinct Keralan-French feel to it.
All rooms have private sit-outs, moulded four-poster beds supporting the mosquito nets and ample storage space. White cotton sarees with gold borders are draped across doors and windows, and the large living room is filled with soft couches, art books and curios.

Rate the bathroom!
3.5 / 5 – Padimunu and Panchavatti have large, pretty bathrooms with double sinks and sunken baths (unfortunately you can’t use them, the management is strict on water conservation) and other creative design features like wooden ladders that are used as clothes hangers. Bathrooms at The Third Place were large and more functional with an industrial feel; some had open-air showers and baths.
