Alsisar Haveli

Jaipur, Rajasthan

The Alsisar Haveli is perhaps Jaipur’s best value heritage hotel and a big travellers’ hub catering to a wide range of visitors, including many of the European designers who come to the city to shop and be inspired.

Built in 1892 by the Kachawa family and converted to a hotel in 1994, Alsisar is a charming place straddling the ground between the slick, starred hotels and the more homely, family-run havelis that dot the city. For example, although the family here still live around the central courtyard, the day-to-day running is overseen by uniformed managers with computerised systems and printed slips for wifi passwords.

The exteriors of the building and the public spaces are truly beautiful and very well maintained, making them a real pleasure to be in, while the pool is a great spot to relax and hang out.

It’s only inside the rooms that one notices a need for refurbishment and repair, which is perhaps reflected in the rates. However, with prices as competitive as they are, and the fantastic location, Alsisar can be forgiven for its drawbacks, and is on balance a great place to stay with a location that gives instant access to the city.
