7 Pines

near Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh

Located in the hamlet of Jagjit Nagar, north of Garkhal and Kasauli, a detour off the main road north between Chandigarh and Shimla.

Check your route carefully and take it slow – the property does not have a big signpost outside and is shrouded in trees, so it’s easy to miss! Transfers are available and if you’re unsure about driving are a much better option.

How to get there:

By air:
Chandigarh Airport is the nearest, with domestic flights arriving from Mumbai and Delhi. From here you can drive the 60km to 7 Pines or take a taxi.
If you’re coming from overseas then fly first to Delhi of course, and then drive from there, or fly to Chandigarh first and then drive (we’d go with the first option).

By rail:
The nearest railway station is at Kalka and it’s fairly easy to connect to get here from Delhi or Mumbai. The station is 35km from 7 Pines and will take about an hour on by taxi.

By road:
Get onto the NH22 highway – if coming from Delhi then access this from Ambala, it will then take you past Chandigarh and on to Pinjore. Carry on towards Shimla but at Dharampur take a sharp left which will take you due west towards Kasauli. Before Kasauli, at Garkhal village, take a right and head due north approx 7km to the hamlet of Jagjit Nagar.

Collection by car is possible with some notice and the hotel has good drivers that it uses on a regular basis.

When to go:

Of course, summer or winter is a matter of preference but both are excellent times to visit this part of Himachal Pradesh.

In summer – March to June – when cities like Delhi and Chandigarh get really hot, it is very pleasant up here. In the cold, winter months – November to February – after the heat and humidity of Mumbai in particular, there’s the fun of sitting by a warm fireplace, sheltered from the crisp cold outside. All that aside, June to September’s rains also have their unique appeal as the forest becomes shrouded in mist.

Getting around:

The biggest attraction here is the chance to walk, hike, trek or stroll around the forest and local area, but to get anywhere e.g. Kasauli, you will need a car or driver.
