Blogzuki!

You’re visiting Mumbai for a few days. You’re hungry. It’s late. Where should you go?

In a city that never sleeps, the awake people need somewhere to eat!

So as a Mumbaiker who often finds himself out and about (and very peckish) in the early hours, here’s my personal take on the top 3 places to eat in Mumbai after midnight.

Check out these spots and you’ll get a nice sense of the variety that exists in my hometown, both in terms of the food and the people.

Bade Miya – iconic roadside kebab joint

This used to be a spot where people would line up till 5am for the delicious kebabs on offer, but recently the cops have become a little stricter and it stays open only till about 1am. Bade’s (as we locals call it) sets up behind the Taj Mahal Palace hotel and no trip here is complete without sampling one of their seekh kebabs or some roomali and paneer bhurji.

Trattoria – solid Italian in a 5-star hotel

Located at the southernmost tip of Mumbai in the Taj President hotel, this Italian eatery is open 24 hrs and stays crowded well into the wee hours of the night, especially on a drunken Saturday. The thin-crust wood-fired pizzas always hit the mark, as does the tasty garlic bread with garlic chilli dip. It may not be groundbreaking but after a few beers it certainly hits the spot!

Sukh Sagar – vegetarian fast food restaurant

This place is near Chowpatty Beach just off Marine Drive and stays open till around 2am. They serve local Mumbai fast food including great Pav Bhaji (mixed veggies cooked in butter served with heavily buttered soft bread). It gets crowded with people, cars and people eating on top of cars and, well, it’s one of my favourite places when the nighttime munchies kick in.
